Pool Chlorine Levels: The Numbers Every Pool Owner Gets Wrong
Maintaining the right chlorine level seems straightforward—add chlorine, test the water, and you're done. In reality, the number on your test kit means very little unless you also know your cyanuric acid (CYA) level, pH, and whether your chlorine is actually available to sanitize the water. Many pool owners aim for 2 ppm of free chlorine because it's the number they hear most often. The problem is that the same reading can produce completely different results depending on the amount of stabilizer in the pool. For example, 2 ppm of free chlorine works well when CYA is around 30 ppm, but it is often insufficient if CYA has climbed to 80 ppm.
